Hydration is the second thing one needs to do in order to stay healthy during the Covid-19 pandemic. Water and/or fluids are very important for the following reasons: 

1. overall health benefit and regulation of body temperature

2. if a mother of a new born, breast milk is the ideal food. Proper nutrition and hydration are absolutely important for your baby.

3. if you’re remaining active during this time hydration is critically important ie.  sip when you’re thirsty, sip to replace what you sweat, if exercising for less than an hour water is your best source, if exercising more than an hour a drink with electrolytes and carbs keeps you energized -sip every 15-20 minutes, know your body and heavy sweaters need to drink more frequently, if you lose more than 2% of your body weight after exercise drink more next time.

4. eat for hydration ie. fruits and vegetables at 90% water can help you stay hydrated

5. go easy on the alcohol making it harder to rehydrate and may impede protein synthesis

4. lubrication of the joints

5. preventative measure for infections

6. deliver valuable nutrients to the cells

7. helps keep organs functioning properly

8. improves sleep and mood which are an important preventative measures during times of stress
